  • Recommended Battery Disconnect Switch for Deep Cell Battery on Horse Trailer for Accessories
  • Yes, the Epicord Battery Disconnect # 277-000096 would be a great switch choice for you to install on the horse trailer to ensure that all the power is on and off to your accessories with one switch to the deep cell battery. I have linked it to this page for your viewing and purchasing convenience.

  • Acceptable Methods of Providing Power to Trailer Jack Mounted on Horse Trailer
  • You can either power the jack through the accessory circuit on the 7-way or via an auxiliary battery installed on the trailer. If you decide to power the jack through the accessory circuit, it is advisable to use a jack whose capacity exceeds the tongue weight of your fully loaded horse trailer. If the jack is working very hard to lift the trailer, the wire that carries the accessory circuit can overheat. To provide plenty of wiggle room, I would say that if the capacity of the jack exceeds...

  • Trailer Cover Recommendation for 24 Foot Horse Trailer
  • For your 24 foot gooseneck horse trailer the Classic Accessories # 052963753639 would be a great choice. It will fit the trailer as it's the correct size and the same shape as a fifth wheel and it will do great in the harsher New England climate you have. There are access panels on both side for you to access a door on either side.

  • Troubleshooting Horse Trailer Brakes that Lock Up when Trailer Wiring is Connected
  • What you need to do is swap the center pin and the pin in the 2:00 position of your horse trailer's 6-way and the problem will go away. The reason this is happening is that for some reason there are two different ways people wire up 6-ways and the only difference is the brake output and 12 volt accessory circuit pins are swapped. If you cut the two wires and then splice to the other pin it will work just fine.

  • Does 12 Volt Accessory Circuit of 37185 Have to be Connected on 2004 Ford F-150
  • Not every trailer has a need for the 12 volt accessory circuit so if you don't have a breakaway kit or interior/exterior lights you can for sure leave it off from the 7-way adapter # 37185.

  • Recommended Interior Light for Horse Trailer
  • I recommend the Peterson Interior and Compartment Light, part # 433600. If strategically mounted in your horse trailer it should provide you with plenty of light. If your trailer has a 6- or 7-way trailer connector you would want to find the 12-volt accessory wire that is on the connector and use that as the power source for part # 433600. Typically, this wire will be black and will have 12 volts of power present at the connector if your tow vehicle is turned on or not. The light comes...

  • Troubleshooting Horse Trailer Wiring Where Brakes Lock Up Immediately
  • Horse trailer wiring is funny as there's two different ways the standard 6-ways can be wired with the only real difference being the brake output circuit and the 12 volt accessory circuit being swapped. What would have solved your problem initially is if you had swapped those two circuits on your Dodge Ram 6-way initially before messing with the other circuits. If you check out the picture I attached it would be swapping the blue and black wires.

  • Can a Horse Trailer Wired for 110AC Power Also be Wired to Run Off of 12 Volt DC Power
  • Since you want the powered accessories on the trailer to run off of both 110 AC power and 12 volt DC power you will need what is called a transfer switch and probably some additional wiring including the batteries. A transfer switch will automatically switch to running off AC power when the trailer is plugged in and then revert back to DC power. The trouble is that the accessories using the power have to be rated for AC and DC power. This is actually a fairly major operation. We do...

  • Is the Center Pin Reverse or Accessory When Wiring Horse Trailer 7-Way
  • If you have a factory seven way trailer connector on the tow vehicle then it will be wired as either traditional or standard which means the center pin is for reverse and the one o'clock is for battery charge. I have attached a chart below. That said, you can test which pins are where on the truck before you wire the trailer plug. I recommend the etrailer Trailer Wiring 7-Way Upgrade Kit part # HS381-9000. You are right in that you must match wires by function, not color on the trailer...

  • What 7-Way Circuits Need to be Active for Prodigy RF Brake Controller TK94FR to Function
  • As long as the 7-way on her 2013 MB ML350 Blue Tech has the 12 volt accessory circuit active (as well as normal trailer wiring circuits), the Tekonsha RF part # TK94FR would be all you need and would work well towing the horse trailer. I attached an install video for this controller for you to check out as well.

  • Troubleshooting Horse Trailer Brakes that Lock Up when Trailer Connector is Connected
  • To install the Curt Venturer part # C84VV in your 2016 Nissan Frontier requires the install harness part # C51382 which is a confirmed fit. In a lot of cases the wire colors don't always match up perfectly as sometimes the manufacturers will change wire colors or they use all-together non-standard colors but we know the harness mentioned is the correct one for your Frontier. Since you have a horse trailer and the brakes are locking up I suspect the issue is related to the trailer connectors....

  • How Can Trailer Lighting be Powered From Onboard Battery and Tow Vehicle
  • Basically you'd need to run the power wire for the lighting and accessories to the same wire that runs to the 12 volt battery to charge it from the trailer wiring. This basically will allow you to power the circuit at any given time but when connected to the tow vehicle it's going to pull from the tow vehicle's charge circuit. This also will put a maintenance charge on the battery when towing like you wanted as well.

  • Where Does Interior Lighting Circuit Come from on Trailer 7-Way
  • The pin in the 1:00 position of a 7-way is the 12 volt accessory circuit and the one to use for powering trailer interior lights. A lot of times trailers don't use standard wire colors so you will need to trace the wires back to where they terminate on the trailer to be able to tell their function and then wire by function according to the diagram I attached.

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Brakes that Lock Up After Swapping from 6-Way to 7-Way
  • This is most likely due to fact that there's two generally accepted standards for 6-way wiring pin outs and the only difference is that the 12 volt accessory and brake output circuits are reversed. So what you need to do on the 7-way wiring is swap the pins in the 1:00 and 5:00 positions and the problem will go away.

  • White Spare Tire Cover Recommendation for Custom Embroidering
  • We don't do any custom embroidering here, but the Classic Accessories Custom Fit Spare Tire Cover # 052963751307 would be a great cover to use for this as long as your tire diameter is between 26-1/2 and 27-1/2 inches in diameter. If you are unsure of the diameter of your spare tire check out the link I attached that will show you how to determine this.

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2008 Ford Taurus X to Tow a Horse Trailer
  • Your 2008 Ford Taurus X has a gross trailer weight capacity of 2,000 pounds. As long as the combined weight of the trailer and the horse is less than that then you could tow the horse and trailer. Going with a single horse trailer made of aluminum will keep the weight down. So it is possible depending on the horse. The best option for a hitch is the Draw-Tite Class 3 Hitch # 75299. For a ball mount use # 36071. If the trailer you choose takes a 1-7/8 inch ball use # 19257 and if it takes...

  • Suspension Enhancement Solution for a Truck that will See A Wide Variety of Trailer Weights
  • The best solution I can recommend for you would be a suspension enhancement setup for your 2007 Toyota Tundra. If you are constantly changing the weight of the trailer you tow you would not want to mess with adjusting a weight distribution system every time you tow a trailer. Setting up a WD system isn't hard but it's not something you would want to have to do every time you tow. Instead an air suspension enhancement system like the Firestone System part # F2445 would be your best option....

  • Troubleshooting Horse Trailer Interior Lights Not Functioning Towed by Ram 3500
  • Check the 12 volt accessory circuit fuse of the trailer wiring circuit you have on you Ram. The lights you have on your trailer that aren't working are powered by this circuit and often times it's a blown fuse that causes it to stop working since this circuit is active all the time which makes it easier to short out. Or you can check the pins of your 7-way for corrosion on this circuit and clean as needed as that's the other really common issue that causes problems on this circuit. I...

  • Latch Recommendation for Rear of Circle J Horse Trailer
  • Typically you see lock/latches like the part # 305736 installed at the rear of a horse trailer. The assembly of this is 36 inches long. For a 55 inch long version the part # 3057-55 would work. My parents had several horse trailers and every single one of them used this style. I pulled up several pictures of 1997 Circle J horse trailers and they all looked like they were using a shorter latch like the # 305736. If you need a different style feel free to email me back with pictures of...
